Yankees Down 2 In Series After Indians' Come-From-Behind Win

Yankees Down 2 In Series After Indians' Come-From-Behind Win

Francona's decision to use Bauer in Game 1 means Corey Kluber, the likely AL Cy Young victor and the man who dominated the 2016 playoffs, is slated to pitch Friday. He'll start Game 2 on Friday against CC Sabathia.

The Cleveland Indians stunned the Yankees on Friday night after rallying back from a five run deficit to overtake NY 9-8 in extra innings and taking a 2-0 lead in the series.

"My family's always going to come first, and I have to do what's best for them", he said.

In order to complete the sweep, the Indians turn the ball over to their best road pitcher, Carlos Carrasco.

Starlin Castro knocked in a single to tie the game at three in the top of the 3rd.

Wow, I thought to myself, this is exactly what I spoke about in that morning's article - how the Yankees needed to jump on Kluber early in order to potentially rattle his cage.

The Indians lost their designated hitter, possibly for the rest of the playoffs, in the bottom of the first inning in Game 2 of the ALDS on October 6.

Fans in Progressive Field, still riding high from beating the Yankees 4-0 in the series opener, were pumped before Game 2 began.

It was the shortest outing this season for Kluber, and as he slowly walked off the mound, Cleveland's stunned crowd gave him a polite ovation and several teammates approached him to offer consolation. The comeback started in the bottom of the 6th inning with what media is calling a botched opportunity by Joe Girardi.

On the very next play after Chisenhall was given first base things changed drastically for the Yankees.

A pitched inside appeared to strike Chisnehall on the hand and the umpire awarded Chisenhall his base thus loading the bases. The Yankees knew they had a puncher's chance against the Tribe, but they needed to land a few haymakers. Their goal right now is to win one game, Game 3. Even if he gave up a two-run home run after retiring Bruce, the Yankees would still have had a three-run lead for Green to try and preserve. A challenged would have ended the inning on a foul-tip strikeout. The Indians haven't announced their starter yet. The Yankees will send out Luis Severino.

"The mindset was to go out there like a closer in the first inning and put up a scoreless inning at all costs", Bauer said. "I couldn't have fallen into a better situation".

He struck out eight and took a no-hitter into the sixth before Aaron Hicks doubled with one out.

Carrasco holds a 2.65 ERA in 105 1/3 road innings this year.

The Indians offered only a fringe prospect - a 30th-round draft pick who had been converted from pitcher to infielder - but they offered to pick up the rest of Bruce's contract, and the Mets accepted. The ball rolled down the left field line as Jackson raced home with the winning run.

There are four other voices Girardi needs to hear from before deciding if he wants to return, should Steinbrenner and Cashman want him back. Join the Factory of Sadness team!

The New York Yankees host the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m.
