Indians DH Edwin Encarnacion exits with injury

First pitch: 5:08 p.m.

After falling injured during Game 2 of the ALDS against the Yankees, Indians slugger Edwin Encarnacion got an MRI and, at least for now, has been declared day-to-day by the Indians.

Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees hits a two run home run during the fourth inning in the American League Wild Card Game at Yankee Stadium on October 3, 2017 in the Bronx borough of New York City. CC Sabathia (14-5, 3.69) will be on the bump for the Yankees.

In those 3.1 innings Gray allowed three runs, and it could've been worse.

Are the New York Yankees going to even the series Friday evening when they face the host Cleveland Indians in Game 2 of the ALDS?

The main key to the game tonight is Aaron Judge. But they've grown to appreciate his quirky ways and the fact that he's a gamer.

Bruce almost caught Edwin Encarnacion on the bases, and as he finished a home-run trot that was more of a sprint, Cleveland's fans hollered "Bruuuuuuuce" like a crowd at a Springsteen concert.

Against a New York Yankees team that led Major League Baseball in home runs and was second in runs scored, Terry Francona picked his third-best starting pitcher for Game 1. But it was still enough to get a run on the board.

"We're still living down past year " says Wayne Munthe.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi sent Ronald Torreyes in to pinch run for Frazier at second.

Argentina reach new low: 73 shots without a goal in WC qualifiers
The only way that Lionel Messi is guaranteed a seat at Russia's 2018 banquet is if Argentina beat Ecuador away on Wednesday. Argentina have also been poor at home this qualifying cycle, having lost twice and gone five games without a win.

No. 7 Georgia surges into game at Tennessee
Georgia also traveled senior place-kicker David Marvin, to go with place-kicker Rodrigo Blankenship and punter Cameron Nizialek. The Bulldogs added David Marvin's 19-yard field goal to cap the day's scoring when the crowd had dwindled to maybe 25,000.

Hamilton surprised himself with pole lap
It was very close with Kimi [Raikkonen] but Vettel, poor guy, couldn't qualify unfortunately, but for us a fantastic result. The auto was much better position [than on Friday], but we were something like four or five tenths off the other guys.

"In hindsight, yes, I could, " Girardi said of challenging immediately without benefit of an accurate replay. I know he can play the position. "Probably the biggest play of the game".

The only changes for the Indians are Yan Gomes getting the start behind the plate and Austin Jackson starting in left field, although he did relieve Lonnie Chisenhall in Game 1. Fortunately for the Yankees, they held onto the momentum of the game after Didi Gregorius smacked a three run homer in the bottom of the first.

Sabathia admitted some surprise about being lifted there, but had confidence in the Yanks' bullpen.

What happened afterward. Francisco Lindor's grand slam off the right-field foul pole on a 1-0 hanging breaking ball by Chad Green that made it 8-7 Yankees.

"It's tough", Gray said. "Just trust the guys in the video room to make the right call".

Jaime Garcia pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Robertson retired four straight batters - three on strikeouts - before Bruce homered to lead off the eighth, his second homer of the series.

The Yankees' best chance in extra innings came when Frazier opened the 11th by reaching second when third baseman Erik Gonzalez fired his grounder into the photographer's area behind first base.

Finally, the Yankees cracked Cleveland. A loss Thursday night means NY needs a win on the road Friday afternoon against Corey Kluber in order to avoid reaching the brink of elimination before they even play a game at Yankee Stadium.
