Will Europa League save Wilshere's Arsenal career?

Will Europa League save Wilshere's Arsenal career?

Jack Wilshere may have played his way back into Arsene Wenger's Arsenal plans after starring in their 4-2 Europa League win over BATE.

Walcott marked his return to the team with a double but was denied what would have been his sixth Arsenal hat-trick by Olivier Giroud, who took the second-half spot kick to bring up his 100th goal for the club.

There were routine wins in Group K for Lazio and Nice, who both have six points from their opening two matches.

In Borisov, Jack Wilshere broke down the left and provided a flawless cross for Walcott to net from close range in the ninth minute, just a minute after he hit the post.

The second came when an absolutely awful attempted clearance from Scherbitski rolled straight into the feet of Walcott, who quickly controlled the ball before side-footing a strike into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

As expected, Arsenal made a number of changes to the XI from their victory against West Brom on Monday. Olivier Giroud and Jack Wilshere also started while the bench was also full of youngsters.

But out of the blue Borisov pulled one back within two minutes, Alexei Rios sending in a good cross from the right that was headed home by Ivanic.

Giroud’s milestone was achieved from the penalty spot soon after halftime as Arsenal’s experimental side had little problem in Belarus with Theo Walcott chiming in with two against BATE. They just scoring 10 points after six games in the Premier League and have only one goal difference.

Zorya were surprise winners by the same scoreline at Athletic Bilbao courtesy of Ihor Kharatin's first-half header. He fights until the end.

Discussing Maitland-Niles, 20, Wenger said: "His best position is defensive midfield".

"We see a lot of young players training with us, a lot of young players they have a good future here, but you need to develop them in a lot of areas", said the 32-year-old. He's on the way up. He has been stopped by a series of injuries.

Arsene Wenger's side beat Cologne 3-1 at home in their first outing a fortnight ago, and the Germans lost again on Thursday, going down 1-0 at home to Red Star Belgrade.

No fewer than four defenders might have cut out Wilshere's deep ball but, if Scherbitksi blocked Walcott's first header, he succeeded only in teeing the ball up for Walcott to stab elegantly home.
