LEADING OFF: Indians aim for 23rd win in row, Price to 'pen

Photo Jay Bruce was mobbed on the field after driving in the winning run in the 10th inning of the Cleveland Indians' 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. Francisco Lindor saved the day with a game-tying double off the left field wall.

During the win streak, which began with a victory over the Boston Red Sox on August 24, the Indians have outscored their opponents 139-35 and trailed in only four of 189 innings.

The team's first 21 games of their American League record winning streak never seemed to suffer the same storyline, with the team putting up unbelievable numbers on both sides of the ball, creating a historic run differential.

The Indians haven't lost in 20 days, and they've rarely been challenged during a late-season run in which they've dominated every aspect of the game. Incredible! The win squared them with the 1935 Chicago Cubs who held the Major League record for longest winning streak without any ties in there.

A near-capacity crowd of 30,874 was on its feet for the final two innings, erupting when Bruce delivered in a game that had a postseason feel.

The ultimate goal, of course, is to get back to the World Series and win their first championship in 68 years.

"I thought that was a lot", Francona said of Miller's workload.

Incredibly, the Indians have hit more home runs (40) than their pitchers have given up in total runs. So much of the streak has been great to watch because of the fans' appreciation of it that it's only right they had a close, exciting game to root for when their team broke the record. There's a reason it's been 15 years since any team has won 21 straight games; it's been over 80 years since a team won 21 straight. The Indians still have three more games to play at home against the Royals this series, pitting Trevor Bauer and Jason Vargas against each other on Friday at 7:10 p.m. EST.

Oh, but the Indians had a little more magic left in them.

Nothing can be taken away from the success of the 2016 Cleveland Indians.

Miller has pitched to a 1.65 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 54.2 innings, but the Indians have done quite well without him.
