Indians tie Major League Baseball record with their 21st consecutive win

Indians tie Major League Baseball record with their 21st consecutive win

In second place is the 20-game streak by the Oakland Athletics that was immortalized in the movie "Moneyball".

- Corey Kluber pitched a five-hitter and Francisco Lindor hit his 30th home run as the Cleveland Indians tied the American League record with their 20th straight victory, a 2-0 decision over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night at Progressive Field. Their last loss, on August 23 to the Boston Red Sox, but since then, the Indians have become the platonic ideal of what the team could be; this is the same team that took the Cubs to the limit in the World Series a year ago, but better.

Cleveland is now tied with the 1935 Chicago Cubs, for the second-longest unbeaten streak since 1900. But Boyd struck out Gomes and got Lindor to popout to end the inning. The Giants won 12 straight games, played a 1-1 tie and then won 14 in a row.

The Indians have an opportunity to break the record for most consecutive wins in Major League Baseball on Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals.

The Indians haven't lost in 20 days, and they've rarely been challenged during a late-season run in which they've dominated every aspect of the game.

Cleveland - It's a play that is largely frowned upon in this analytical age of baseball. "We got there and we were like, 'We have to stop them.' That was a team that was on a roll".

Myles Garrett out 2 weeks, maybe more
And even if Kizer doesn't get demoted, somebody else will have to receive a promotion before the Browns hit their bye in Week 9. Lucky for him he'll have a much better offensive line to learn behind than Cody Kessler and Robert Griffin III did a year ago .

Injury fightback lifts gritty Sloane Stephens to US Open crown
Stephens then took a commanding lead in the second set as she cruised to her first Grand Slam title in dominant fashion . Stephens , however, will have to pick up the bar tab as the two head out for a night on the town in the Big Apple.

Hurricane Irma: Gun owners in Florida plan to 'shoot down' hurricane
Hurricane Irma, now a Category 3 storm with 125-mile winds, is barreling along the coast of Cuba and heading toward Florida . France said at least 10 had been killed across its Caribbean territories with seven more missing.

The White Sox won the World Series this year.

Kluber offered up a predictably suffocating effort, tossing a shutout at a depleted Tigers team, while allowing only five hits, striking out eight and walking none in his fifth complete game and third shutout of the season. Starter Mike Clevinger struck out six over 5.2 innings and improved his record to 10-5, giving up a single earned run in the form of a Jeimer Candelario double in the first inning.

Cabrera came in batting.434 against Kluber but went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. In the span of just three weeks, Cleveland has thrust itself into the conversation as one of the best teams in baseball. As far as Francona's concerned, there is nothing magical going on. To win 20? I can't imagine.

"I out-thought myself", Hellickson said. "Maybe you don't believe me". We see the results from it, but I think it's kind of preached to us from Day 1. "We try to learn from each game and move on as quickly as we can".

This team doesn't seem exhausted, mentally or physically, except for maybe Carlos Santana who was waved home in the eighth inning for a potential inside-the-park home run.

Indians: 2B Jason Kipnis is pushing to return Sunday after being sidelined since August 23 with a strained hamstring. Zimmer will be examined by a hand specialist on Monday. The Indians shut out their opponents seven times, which is equal to or more shutouts than 18 teams have had all season.
