Uber board chooses head of Expedia to be company's new CEO

Uber board chooses head of Expedia to be company's new CEO

A spokesperson for the firm declined to comment on the appointment of Uber's new CEO.

Meg Whitman, now head of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and formerly of eBay, was also been mentioned as a possible candidate for the position, but Whitman put that speculation to rest in late July when she proclaimed "Uber's CEO will not be Meg Whitman". Immelt backed out right before the vote, supposedly after doubts about his leadership and potential over-eagerness to court Travis Kalanick. Kalanick was reportedly angling to keep a significant amount of control with the board, a prospect that Whitman opposed. This seems to have allowed Khosrowshahi to get all the way to the final offer for Uber's top job without anyone in the Valley so much as blinking in his direction.

Among other candidates in the race, Meg Whitman, the chief executive of Hewlett Packard Enterprise is in the race for CEO's position at Uber, Reuters reported.

Khosrowshahi was the "truce" choice, according to Recode, acceptable to both sides in the board's dysfunctional selection process. Finally, Khosrowshahi emerged as the "truce" candidate that all board members felt comfortable with.

Expedia, where Dara Khosrowshahi comes from, is originally a part of InterActiveCorp (IAC). A source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the details were confidential, said Immelt did not have enough board votes to become C.E.O.

The investigation began after a former employee alleged sexual harassment and sexism at the company in a blogpost in February 2017. Khosrowshahi is also a vocal critic of President Trump, particularly his travel ban against Muslim Americans.

Pakistan using India as excuse to pursue Afghan policy
The minister also noted that if necessary he would visit the United States to discuss the issue with the country's leadership. Pakistan supports an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned politically negotiated solution for sustainable peace in Afghanistan , it said.

Lexi Thompson's 'weirdest round' helps United States to beat Europe in Solheim Cup
The US won the second match by the same lop-sided margin as Paula Creamer and Austin Ernst outplayed Mel Reid and Emily Pedersen. Anna Nordqvist and Jodi Ewart Shadoff beat Lizette Salas and Angel Yin 4&2, but that was the sole bright spot for Europe.

Justin Thomas Surges To PGA Championship Title For First Major Win
In the final round, Watson shot 2-over 73, while Mahaffey shot 66 and Pate shot 68 to get into a three-way playoff at 8-under 276. Thomas began his move with a 35-foot birdie putt on No. 9, and then caught two breaks on the par-5 10th. 11-13) proved costly.

Complicating the hunt for a new CEO were rumors that Kalanick was plotting a return to Uber as CEO - something the company has flatly denied.

After conducting interviews with more than 200 former and current employees, former US Attorney Eric Holder released a list of recommendations to improve Uber's toxic workplace culture.

Khosrowshahi will also be expected to fill a number of executive vacancies at Uber including a new chief operating officer, chief financial officer and general counsel. "I have enormous respect for the company & founders".

He has, however, shown some affinity for on-demand transportation: Khosrowshahi, according to PitchBook, is a personal investor in Convoy, a company that has been described as "Uber for trucking", and that could be an attractive acquisition for the ride-hailing giant down the line.

This apparently came moments after the Uber Board finalised the CEO. (In one infamous episode that was caught on video earlier this year, Kalanick unloaded onto an Uber driver who criticized the company's wages).
