Hurricane Harvey Significant Digits For Monday, Aug. 28, 2017

Tropical Storm Harvey continues to batter the area with rain and flooding, and is expected to drop buckets of water on southeastern Texas until Wednesday.

Al Jazeera's weather presenter Richard Angwin reported that the "worst is probably yet to come", saying that the storm, which is moving only at an estimated five kilometres per hour, could dump more rain in the coming days.

Picking up on the words of his FEMA administrator, Trump vowed that federal government would continue to provide support for the "long and hard road" ahead. Six to 12 more inches of rain are expected to fall in Houston over the next three days.

At least $3 million in pledges will help those recovering from Harvey's widespread damage and flooding, thanks in part to owners from at least two teams.

Texas officials and first responders are focused on "rescuing every person we can find" as the storm continues, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

"We're just trying to do whatever we can to help from afar", Watt said.

"We're dealing with Congress".

Southend High School for Boys celebrating record-breaking A-level results
For some, it will mean a green sticker on their envelope because they have done so well that we want to take a quick photo. Headteacher Neil Morris said 99 per cent of his students scored between A* and E and 48 per cent per cent got A* to B.

But as the Louisiana parish where he serves as emergency preparedness director faces its own deluge from Tropical Storm Harvey, Gremillion also is advising local residents to stay home if they can.

The statement adds that Trump "reminded everyone that search and rescue efforts will transition to mass care, restoring power, providing life-sustaining necessities for the population that sheltered in place, and economic recovery". "The Texas National Guard is working closely with FEMA and federal troops to respond urgently to the growing needs of Texans who have fallen victim to Hurricane Harvey, and the activation of the entire Guard will assist in the efforts already underway". So far about two thousand people have been rescued in and around the city and at least eight are said to have died.

Trump also met for almost two hours on Saturday with his homeland security team and top advisers to discuss the coordination of federal resources and relief efforts, Bossert said.

Trump, facing the biggest USA natural disaster since he took office in January, has signed disaster proclamations for Texas and Louisiana, triggering federal relief efforts.

The White House insisted FEMA's $3bn balance would be enough to handle the immediate response to the storm, with the agency now prioritising its response to Harvey over earlier disasters in order to prevent it running out of money. Trump said he may pay a second visit to the region on Saturday.

"We felt like there was no hope and we tried to evacuate on a boat that our neighbor had, but the current was too strong, so we went back to the house", a woman said. Lawmakers are likely to be asked to approve a short-term disaster assistance program in the billions of dollars when they return to Washington after August recess.
