White House paints Handel win as Trump triumph

Republican Karen Handel won a closely watched special congressional election on Tuesday, salvaging a seat in the traditionally conservative Georgia where Democrats had hoped to strike a blow against Donald Trump's presidency.

"I'm worth the trouble, quite frankly", snapped back Pelosi to her critics.

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, on Thursday criticized Pelosi, saying that the Democratic brand is more toxic than Trump's, which he said has led to Democratic losses in election races, like that one in Georgia.

The House Minority Leader is feeling the pressure from all sides after Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff in a special election in Georgia. Ryan lost a bid to replace Pelosi as the top elected Democrat in the House in November.

"The issue I think strategically is that Trump energizes their base and Leader Pelosi energizes their base", said Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, who was unsuccessful past year in trying to unseat Pelosi.

The leadership of the House Democratic Caucus tried to put the best face on Tuesday's special election losses in Georgia and SC by saying they're making progress, and the GOP victories were much more narrow than in the past. "And you can't get away from the fact that in Georgia this was seen as a test of whether the resistance by Democrats was going to overpower the Republicans or whether the Trump vote would hold".

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, in particular, has come under fire.

Pelosi should watch her back. On Twitter, the hashtag #StandWithNancy began trending with messages of support.

Another leadership test for Pelosi, who's weathered many
House Democratic leaders are taking some comfort in coming in a close second for a seat that's always been firmly in GOP hands. It is certainly morale-sapping for Democrats who still have not figured out how to secure a win over Mr Trump.

Last week, Smith had Durant's mom, Wanda, on First Take and told her directly that her son's move to the Warriors was "weak ". Now, you may say: "So what?" "I can't believe it, but I have to", Durant said recently of where he is after a decade.

US Open at a glance
Fowler wasted no time in exploiting the conditions after teeing off on the 10th, rattling off four quick birdies to be four under. Big hitters Dustin Johnson , Rory McIlroy and Jason Day were expected to thrive on the wide open fairways of Erin Hills.

"I respect any opinion that my members have but my decision about how long I stay is not up to them". But in the second half of her 15 years as caucus leader, the Democrats in the House have been in a steady decline, losing the House majority in 2010, and continuing to lose seats.

Pelosi is a prolific fundraiser for her party, and a savvy legislator with few rivals on Capitol Hill when it comes to cutting the deals necessary to keep government in motion.

Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela from Texas told Politico that you'd have to be an idiot to think that Democrats could win with the current Democratic leader in the House. In all four states, Democrats bolstered their historical performance in districts they lost by double-digit margins a year ago. Many are calling for new leadership. Curious to hear your thoughts on this political story.

"This is not anything personal between me and Nancy Pelosi".

But Pelosi mocked the President, saying it was "the first tweet he didn't actually write" because it sounded like a statement many other Republicans have made recently.

Pelosi said the Democratic base is energised, adding, "We must now put forth our message".

Pelosi said: "Usually they go after the most effective leaders because they want to diminish the opportunity that we have". "We gave them a run for their money".

It's no surprise that the Dems tanked, given the inept leadership they have in Congress, especially in the House, where Nancy Pelosi calls the shots as the minority leader.
