Rickie Fowler leads US Open on day of highs and lows

Six times a runner-up at the U.S. Open, Mickelson skipped another chance at completing a career grand slam when it became obvious Mother Nature was not going to cooperate and delay the start of the opening round.

No one took advantage of Erin Hills like Fowler. Okay, the former Masters champion's 72 surely wasn't quite what he had in mind before teeing-off, but it could have been so much worse.

Red usually is not a prevalent color seen on US Open leaderboards. "Having a win this year at The Honda Classic, being in contention at majors in the past, and having the Players win has definitely done a lot for me".

McIlroy joked earlier in the week that anyone who couldn't hit such wide fairways "might as well pack your bags and go home".

"It was just a really fun round", said Casey, who said he was far from flawless and made errors.

His words came boomeranging back in the first round. Jason Day and Rory McIlroy never got that memo.

McIlroy is six shots over the projected cut line, Day is seven over.

"I'd rather be remembered for something that's done on Sunday", Fowler said. Even though he cooled off at the end, he finished the day with a one-shot lead.

On a day in which 105 players hit 10 or more fairways, McIlroy only hit five.

"I didn't hit it great.but I hit enough fairways to shoot a good score".

"I just played bad golf, man", Day said with a chuckle.

"I feel fine, I was hacking around in the rough and didn't feel the injury one bit. Bit of rust, timing was a little off".

The incident happened at around 11:55am with the opening round of the season's second major under way at Erin Hills. He ranked 107 in driving accuracy. He barely said a word to anyone all day.

Authorities from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) provided more details on the blimp flying close to the U.S. Open that crashed into a farm field and exploded Thursday, June 15th. Day's opening round included a triple-bogey on the Par-4, 451-yard fourth hole. That covers 676 rounds.

The USGA wants to get away from references of the U.S. Open being the toughest test in golf, preferring instead the "ultimate test". So there's nothing for me to change other than just dial things in on the greens.

The U.S. Open is known for putting a premium on par, even as the USGA tries to convince golf fans that it's not preoccupied with par. He missed the cut at Oakmont a year ago.

Ormsby, though, would double bogey his 16th hole after his third shot at the par-five seventh went through the green.

"The envelope started collapsing and the burners were still burning the residual fuel and the envelope caught fire", said Sullivan. Between them, only Harman has reached age 30, they have played only 28 majors (14 by Koepka) and they have managed three top-10 finishes (all by Koepka).

"I think people - some of the guys took my social media post kind of the wrong way", Na said. "I looked at the first few hours, and then I gave up".
