Firefighters urge caution on Fourth of July

A fireworks show at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing will follow.

The following Fourth of July events and fireworks are taking place in the McHenry County area.

The village will have a fireworks display at dusk Monday, July 3, at the OSRUI camp, 600 Lac La Belle Drive. A free 21-minute fireworks extravaganza choreographed to music and simulcast on 94.9 KCMO. In the event of rain, the celebration will be held the following day - Thursday, July 6.

Newton Falls: Carnival and Fourth of July activities including food vendors, games and live bands nightly.

Canton will hold its "Patriotic Fireworks Spectacular" at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Multipurpose Building.

Tuesday brings the Fun Fourth Street Festival - the largest 4th of July festival in North Carolina - to downtown Greensboro. Visit www.centerharbornh.org. for details. Come for an Independence Day celebration with food, drinks and entertainment, culminating with fireworks after dark.

Many cities and towns across the state are hosting their own festivities for the nation's Independence Day, so this top five only covers five places where you can celebrate with music, food, and of course, fireworks. The fireworks finale will be in the evening on July 4.

10 a.m. - Independence Day Parade along Main Street.

The city's annual parade -with the theme "Freedom Forever" - will start at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 1. Call the Laconia Parks and Recreation Department for details at 603-524-0521.

Independence Day Parade and Fireworks. Following the parade, there will be a complimentary barbeque cookout at the Lion's Club. Musical entertainment will be performing on the amphitheater beginning at 7 p.m. See tractors, dancing, WWII vehicles, unicycling, and maybe a politician or two in this festive parade.

Powell Gardens will host its annual Booms & Blooms from 2 to 10 p.m. July 1.

At 6 p.m., Chain Skiers will perform a water ski show on Rainbow Lake behind the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. Picnics will also be allowed on Tuesday, July 4. The celebration ends with a fireworks display starting at about 9:20 p.m. Events include a parade, beauty pageant, fun run, kids games, contests.

Crossville's Fourth of July celebration begins at 5 p.m. on July 4 at Crossville Centennial Park. This event will be held Tuesday, July 4, outside of Salem High School.
