Verizon Brings Back Unlimited Data Plans For $80 a Month

If you're on Verizon Unlimited, you'll have the same coverage and reliability as everybody else.

We're all familiar with plans that bring unlimited calling and texting but we have yet to be offered a real unlimited data plan that matters. This unlimited data plan however, comes with some stipulations. We should note, however, that while you'll be getting unlimited data, it's not all created equal.

Verizon Unlimited includes 10GB of 4G LTE tethering per month, with tethering reduced to 3G speeds after the 10GB of usage. The plan will offer 22GB at full LTE speeds, but once you hit the data cap you'll have your speeds throttled, and Verizon will de-prioritize you on their network.

A four-line family plan will cost $45 each. We're not limiting you to a single plan. Lines three through four are added for free.

T-Mobile has launched its own version of an unlimited plan in January called T-Mobile One Plan. The price of the service is $80 per line.

Verizon added 591K postpaid connections on 4Q16, but only 167K of those were coveted phone net adds.

Verizon Unlimited also includes Mobile Hotspot with 10 GB of 4G LTE data at no charge. After enduring what seems like years of ridicule from T-Mobile and Sprint, Verizon is finally back in the game - the unlimited game, that is. As a practical matter that means if you use 22GB, which almost everyone does, you'll never see any slowdowns. The Verge pointed out that paperless billing and AutoPay should be enabled upon subscription to any of the plans. The only caveat is that, in order to be eligible, you must set up automatic billing.

How does this affect grandfathered unlimited plans?

Tell me in the comments. It will also allow customers to stream unlimited HD video, thumbing its nose at T-Mobile's controversial practice of lowering video quality for some of its unlimited data customers. If you don't want to, you don't have to.
