Halloween is a fun night for thousands of ghosts and goblins across CT.

The Corpus Christi Police Department has planned ahead to make sure the community stays safe on Halloween night.

At alleys and driveways, enter and exit slowly and carefully.

Parents should make sure children under 12 trick-or-treating with a parent or other trusted adult.

Consider placing reflective or glow in the dark tape on your children's costumes.

When expecting candy, look for discoloration, tears in wrappers, an unusual appearance or tiny pinholes. He said patrols would be on the lookout for suspicious activity, including vandalism, and will respond accordingly. "And [Trick-or-Treaters and adults] should use their best judgement in any costume they choose".

Parents should make sure their kids know the neighborhood where they will be trick-or-treating. Motorists need to ensure they are following the rules of the road and remain alert for children wearing less visible clothing while driving through residential areas. If there is no sidewalk, walk beside the road, facing traffic, to increase visibility. Always walk on sidewalks or paths. Watch between cars and throughout the middle of a block.

Children should carry a flashlight after dark and wear light-colored, fire resistant costumes. Don't eat candy collected until an adult inspects it. HOMEOWNERS Turn on porch light so children know it's ok to trick-or-treat there. "The pet may not recognize the child and become frightened, especially if the child is using a prop such as a sword or dagger as part of their costume".
